Government silence on British spying reports alarming- Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson, Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD has described as alarming the silence of the Government on reports that Irish subsea telecommunications cables have been targeted by Britains Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ). Deputy Mac Lochlainn said: The reports over a week ago in the Irish Times based on documents released by the US National Security Agency whistleblower, Edward Snowden are disturbing. “Essentially it is alleged that there have been mass interceptions of the internet and phone communications and activities of Irish citizens by a foreign Government. This was done with the assistance of some telecommunications companies. “Today, I have submitted questions to the Ministers for Justice, Foreign Affairs, and Communications asking what representations or expressions of concern they or the Government have made to the British Government on this serious matter. “Their silence to date is alarming.
