Governor Hickenlooper signed SB-252 today. This bill will raise - TopicsExpress

Governor Hickenlooper signed SB-252 today. This bill will raise energy rates on rural Colorado, including counties with some of the highest unemployment rates in the state. It is sad to think that hard working coloradoans who are just barely getting by, now must figure out where to cut in their budget so they can meet this new government mandate. Rural businesses, rural schools and hospitals, a...long with those in the agricultural industry, will also suffer. Interestingly enough, no one in the districts of the sponsors of this bill, will have to pay a dime more for energy as a result of this bill. This bill was widely opposed by most of rural Colorado, yet one of the main reasons the Governor gave for signing the bill was that it will help rural Colorado. I guess the Governor, along with the bill sponsors, know more about what is good for rural Colorado than rural Colorado does. Opponents of Senate Bill 252 ranged from business groups to Agriculture groups to Hospitals to Unions. Here is a short list of groups in opposition to SB-252 that the Governor chose to thumb his nose at today in signing the bill- Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry, National Federation of Independent Business, Colorado Concern, Colorado Mining Association, IBEW Local #111, IBEW Local #667, IBEW Local #969, IBEW Local #12, IBEW Local #68, IBEW Local #113, Rocky Mountain Agribusiness Association, Colorado Corn Growers Association, Colorado Telecommunications Association, Colorado Farm Bureau, Colorado Cattlemen Association, Associated Governments of Northwest Colorado, Action 22, Club 20, Progressive 15, Metro North Chamber of Commerce, Pueblo Home Builders Association, Colorado Hospital Association, Economic Development Council of Colorado, Craig Moffat Economic Development Partnership and the Douglas County Business Alliance
