Grace Bible Church Pastor Teacher Robert R. McLaughlin Wednesday July 1, 2014 Seventh Saying - LUK 23:46 And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, Father, into Thy hands I commit My spirit. And having said this, He breathed His last. Tthe fact that when our Lord said Father, into Thy hands I commit My spirit. And having said this, He breathed His last, that this was the beginning of the principle that God saves the best for last. He went into the grave, then He was resurrected, He ascended into heaven, then He was seated at the right hand of the Father where we are told that God the Father said, PSA 110:1 Sit at My right hand, Until I make Thine enemies a footstool for Thy feet. ECC 7:1b, the day of ones death is really better than the day of ones birth. The Seventh cry or saying from the cross appeared to be the beginning of the end when in reality it was the announcement of a new beginning. For Jesus Christ would arise from the grave in a resurrection body, walk among men for a short time, then ascend into the presence of the Father to sit at His right hand as our great High Priest and make intercession for us forever (HEB 1:3; 7:25). The Victorious Proclamation which defines what our Lord did after He said, Father into Thy hands I commit My spirit. One of the most startling events that ever to place was the creation of man. Here was an inferior form of creation who, unlike angels, could not travel through space, who was limited in power and vision, and who was confined to one small planet, yet this creature was made in the image and likeness of God (GEN 1:27). GEN 1:27-28, And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. And God blessed them; and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth. In spite of the fact that angels seem to be a superior creation, we never read that they were made in the image of God, as we are. The angels were given commands to protect TLJC as a member of the human race. Here we see the calling of God upon the angels to minister to a member of the human race, TLJC. LUK 16:22 Now it came about that the poor man [Lazarus] died and he was carried away by the angels to Abrahams bosom; 1CO 6:3 Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, matters of this life? a. For example, elect angels rejoice over the salvation of one person, LUK 15:7,10. LUK 15:7 I tell you that in the same way, there will be {more} joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety‑nine righteous persons who need no repentance. LUK 15:10 In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. In the dispensation of the Hypostatic Union, angels observed every part of the first advent and incarnation of our Lord, 1TI 3:16 which says that He was, Beheld by angels. In the dispensation of the Church-age, angels observe members of the royal family of God in their failure or success to execute and fulfill the PPOG, 1CO 4:9; EPH 3:10; 1TI 5:21; 1PE 1:12. The nominative neuter singular of theatron which is where we get the word theater from and it means a theater, a place for public shows, a play, a place for the performance of dramatic representations. EPH 3:10 in order that the multi‑faceted or many-sides of the wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places. Angels even observe the believers in the church age receiving commands from headquarters according to 1TI 5:21. 1TI 5:21 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of His chosen angels, to maintain these principles without bias, doing nothing in a spirit of partiality. Angels also desire and long to look into the things that so many of Gods people take for granted, 1PE 1:12. The word long is epithumeo which means to have a desire for something, to long for, to set the heart upon. In 1CO 11:10, angels observe the attitude that the woman has toward her husband and the symbol of authority that it represents. 1CO 11:10 Therefore the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. JOH 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. JOH 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. Whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. HEB 1:3 notice that we are told that God the Son, TLJC is the radiance or the shining forth of Gods glory and the exact representation of His nature. Therefore in COL 1:15 we read that He [TLJC] is the EXACT image of the invisible God, the first‑born OR THE PRIVILEGE ONE of all creation. COL 1:16 For by Him [TLJC] all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities‑‑ all things have been created by Him and for Him. For in GEN 1:1 we read In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. COL 1:17-18, And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the first‑born from the dead; so that He Himself might come to have first place in everything. COL 1:19-20, For it was the Fathers good pleasure for all the fulness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. The Message Bible says that the Son perfectly mirrors God and that He is stamped with Gods nature. The Amplified Bible says; HEB 1:3 He is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light‑being, the radiance of the divine], and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [Gods] nature, HEB 1:3 And He [Jesus Christ] is the radiance [flashing forth--which is a reference to the humanity of Christ being the flashing forth] of His [God the Fathers] glory, and the exact representation of His nature [deity of Christ]; and He upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high Thats when Jesus Christ received His third royal title, the King of kings and the Lord of lords, and thats when the angelic conflict shifted gears into its intensified stage. HEB 1:4-5, Having become [meaning Jesus Christ in His humanity] as much better than the angels, as He has inherited an excellent or superior title to theirs [third royal title]. For to which of the angels did He [God the Father] ever say, You are My Son [deity of Christ], this day I have given birth to You [the humanity of Christ in hypostatic union]? And again [2SA 7:14], I will be His Father and He will be My Son. HEB 1:6, And when He again brings His First born into the world [Second Advent] He says, [PSA 97:7], let all the angels of God worship Him. Here we see the so-called higher creation, known as the angels, being told to worship a member of the lower creation, the humanity of Christ. Through TLJC finishing the work God had called Him to finish, He is said to become better than the angels and therefore the angels are to worship Him. We are all in union with TLJC. In EPH 2:6, we are told that we have been raised up with Him, and seated with Him in the heavenly places, We are also told in 2CO 5:17 that if any of us are in Christ, we are new creatures, the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. As members of the human race, it is said about us that in ROM 6:4 We have been buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. Eternal life, 1JO 5:11‑12. b. Perfect righteousness, 2CO 5:21. c. Election, EPH 1:4. d. Destiny, EPH 1:5. Sonship, 2TI 2:1. f. Heirship, ROM 8:16‑17. g. Sanctification, 1CO 1:2. h. Priesthood, HEB 10:10‑14. i. Royalty (Kingship), 2PE 1:11. Angels do not share that and that is part of the Victorious Proclamations our Lord announced to the angels after He died and said Father into Your hands I commit My spirit. HEB 1:7-8, And of the angels He says, Who makes His angels winds, And His ministers a flame of fire. But of the Son He [God the Father] says, [a quotation from PSA 45:6-7] Thy throne, O God [TLJC], is forever and ever, And the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom. Your throne, O God is forever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of Your kingdom [Second advent, Millennium, and eternal kingdom]. HEB 1:9-13, Thou hast loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Thy God, hath anointed Thee With the oil of gladness above Thy companions. And, [PSA 102:25-27] `in the beginning, O Lord [Jesus Christ], You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They [the galaxies] will perish, but You will remain; they all will wear out like clothing. And You will roll them up like a robe [end of the Millennium]; like a garment they will be changed [new heavens and earth], but You will remain the same, and Your years will never end. but to which of the angels has He [God the Father] ever said, [PSA 110:1] `sit down at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. God could not say this to deity, and He never said this to an angel; He said this to the humanity of Christ, making the humanity of Christ superior to angels. MAT 20:16 Thus the last shall be first, and the first last. The point is that God seems to always save the best for last. Death, which most individuals live in fear of, is actually not the desert of life but the dessert of life. Because in HEB 2:14, we are told that through death our Lord rendered powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil; The point is that being in union with Christ, we are now positionally superior to angels. We cannot take advantage of our position now on earth unless we live in the PPOG designed for us in eternity past by God the Father. When our Lord dismissed His human spirit, we are told that He went to Hades and in His victorious proclamation, He announced to the angels the victory that He won on the earth when He died on the Cross. 2PE 2:4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment; JUD 1:6 And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day. The entire angelic creation had previously made their choice, as revealed by the two opposing categories of these super-creatures: elect and fallen (Mar 5; 8:38; 1TI 5:2). When Satan exercised his volition and decided against God, he drew one-third of the angels with him (REV 12:4). Perhaps millions of years before the advent of man, the conflict raged between those angels who followed Satan and those who chose for God. The sentencing of Satan and his angels to the Lake of Fire (MAT 25:41) is not to be carried out until the end of time (Rev 20), which causes us to arrive at two conclusions. First, Satan must have appealed his sentence. Second, man was created by God to resolve this dispute which occurred at the termination of the trial. The titles Satan and devil, mean the adversary, accuser, attorney (someone who goes to court and appeals). We can conclude because of the character and nature of God, that all the angels had been given an opportunity under grace to be saved but had rejected it. God created man in order to demonstrate to them that His position in grace was just and that, in fact, His love would express itself by elevating a lower creation above a higher creation which means humanity above the angels. God loved the angels, but God cannot love in a way that is inconsistent with the other attributes of His character. When Satan went negative, God had to make a decision which was compatible with His righteousness and justice, as well as with His love. God created man to show Satan how a loving God can save a creature and still maintain His perfect righteousness and justice. As soon as man was created, God displayed His infinite grace by providing everything that man would ever need and, surprisingly, by setting up a test to make it possible for man to exercise his volition (GEN 2:17). It was to give man the opportunity of choosing for or against God. That is what our Lord announced to the angels after He died and said Father into Your hands I commit My spirit. GEN 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. It shall bruise thy head is the Seed of the woman, the Lord Jesus Christ. This predicts the ultimate defeat of Satan, which will take place at the Second Advent of Christ (MAT 25:41; REV 12:9: 20:10). Thou [Satan] shalt bruise his [Christs] heel. The depraved serpent reaches no higher than the mans heel, yet when the venomous snake strikes this lower extremity, the poison spreads throughout the mans entire body. The bruising of the Lords heel is a reference to the Cross where Christ bore in His own body the judgment for every sin in the human race (2CO 5:21; 1PE 2:24). They demonstrated their faith by offering animal sacrifices to God. The blood of bulls and goats could not save man from even one sin (HEB 10:4). Every time a man offered an animal sacrifice, even if it was only a pigeon, he was saying, I have believed Genesis 3:15. Today, when you accept Christ, you are saying, I believe John 3:16. As a result, anyone who puts his faith in Christ is eternally saved. gbible.org
