Grace doesnt exempt us from pain; but, to the contrary, sometimes drags us into hellish places of stark darkness where we stand alone with our Father desperately clutching our core beliefs. Core beliefs now laid bare in a way that causes us to see the difference in what we really believe and what we have simply parroted back and forth to each other in saner and calmer moments. Great pain has a way of stripping away the superfluous. It obliterates Cosmetic Christianity. It erases all the devotional slogans of our lives and leaves us with the bare-bones, raw reality of what were really trusting when push comes to shove and there’s nothing and nobody around to help us except God. It brings us to Ground Zero where the meaninglessness of empty Bible-babble becomes so very apparent and it causes us to speak to and about Him in hushed tones and holy whimpers. It is in those moments that Faith is seen for what it is - a Person holding us and hugging us forward one moment at a time. ~ Steve McVey
