Gracewood campus of East Central Regional Hospital now in compliance for Medicaid program, feds say In a letter to the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Assistant Regional Administrator Sandra Pace said Gracewood is “now in substantial compliance with federal regulations required for participation in the Medicaid program” after a survey visit last month. In a series of inspections beginning last March through June and culminating on Aug. 2, surveyors found a number of violations, including verbal and physical abuse of patients. It found a number of injuries that were not investigated well or at all. Two staff members were suspended, with one being fired and the other retiring, the state said. The state submitted a plan of correction that included revamping how injuries are reported and included hiring at least nine more administrators. In a news release, the department credited its “team on the ground” that “worked diligently over the last several months to make dramatic improvements” required by the plan of correction.
