Grade 10 Pottery had their annual exchange with Musashino Higashi, a specially integrated school for children with autism. Before our visit students researched autism and different approaches to education for them. Higashi Gakuens predominant features are Mixed Education and Daily Life Therapy for students with autism.In the mixed educational setting, students with autism are integrated with their regular peers for part of full-day curriculum. The day was all about creating a joint art project based on a Christmas theme. It was a chance for our young ladies to make new friends through the common language of art. We had a school tour and many chances to have burning questions answered by Mr. Kuginura and Mr Okubo who created this opportunity for us. We look forward to receiving their students on January 29th for a special art exchange and a chance to enjoy One World Day at Sacred Heart.
