Gran Fondo NJ names NJBWC Executive Director, Cyndi Steiner as Grand Marshal for 2014 for this Septembers annual ride. Cyndi Steiner is the Executive Director of the New Jersey Bike + Walk Coalition, a statewide bicycle and pedestrian advocacy organization working to make NJs roads safer for all non-motorized users. NJBWC has made significant progress under Cyndis leadership: a commitment from the Port Authority for ADA compliant access to the George Washington Bridge; bike lanes and other Complete Streets features for the Hurricane-Sandy ravaged rebuild of Rt 35 from Bay Head to Island Beach State Park; the successful passage by the NJ State Assembly of a four foot safe-passing bill; a commitment from NJ Department of Transportation to retain federal bicycle and pedestrian project funding at 2012 levels; and a pilot alternative transportation program for the township of Montclair that received a grant from Sustainable Jersey for the first component. Cyndi is a former racer, having won the 2008 NJ Womens Category Four Cup Series and the State Time Trial Championship in her age group that same year. She also placed third in the Medio Fondo last year in the womens Gran Fondo NJ. She was the top woman fundraiser for the 2012 Climate Ride and co-organized the Ken and Cecile Youner Memorial Spokes of Hope Ride, also in 2012.
