Grandpa, Michula Lucka, (Mike Lusko after Ellis Island), was born in Snina, Zemplen, Austro-Hungaria and Grandma, Julia Ann Durkoth, was born on the ocean but her family was from Runine just over the mountain, but they did not meet till they were in America. Grandfather was a breaker boy in the mines in PA. Grandmother worked in a sewing sweat shop. Married in Flatts Church in NY if memory serves. Her younger brother was killed in the mines...his name was John Durkoth. I have looked for records of him but with no success. They moved on to Michigan, first up state on a farm they lost in the depression, then to Detroit. The family lived on Lumpkin, Nine Mile and St. Aubin streets in Detroit while dad was growing up. I love family history research and would love to visit Slovakia someday. We have grandfathers school books from the old country and some other documents but cant find history past his grandfathers name.
