Grant has been putting up really rich daily devotions on jesuslovesyoumission But they disappear after 1 day! (Tuesday 12th. November 2013.) Joshua 5:11-12. And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the Passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day. And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; ......... ¶ THINKING IT OVER: * The Feast begins. * The reproach is rolled away. They can see the glorious land and they keep the Passover. They then taste the solid food of the land and also its sweetness in the unleavened cakes and it was then that the manna ceased. How great is the salvation of God? [Hebrews 2:3.] When self is done and our reproach is rolled away, then by the touch of the Lord upon our blindness, we begin to see the delightful Land of eternal plenty in Christ. Also it is then that we begin to be strengthened by the rich corn of the Word of God. Strengthened by the riches of such good food in the land in order to further taste its delights and the promised blessing of God. It was then that we read, “the manna ceased. It is important to remember that the manna was the wonderful provision of the Lord for travel through the wilderness but we read that the children of Israel said of this manna .... And our soul loatheth this light bread. [Numbers 21:5.] The Lord said that he suffered his people in the wilderness .... And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness. [Acts 13:18.] The bad manners of self and sin with all of us are dealt with in the wilderness; and yet how faithful is our loving God that he miraculously provided this manna every day in the wilderness for them! When we havent been going so good spiritually, how graciously the Lord has dealt with us and still been the bread of Life to us. Scofield in his notes relates the Christian in the wilderness as only knowing Christ as Saviour; knowing him as the propitiation for our sins, and needing much learning from the Lord to look to him as our Life. The consequence of such is that there is no experience of the meat of the Word that moves the Christian forward by faith towards the glories of the Promised Land; the wealth of spiritual blessing and maturity therein. Is it possible for the Christian to experience a drag in coming to the Word of God and suffer almost a loathing of this ‘light bread’? Such a disposition is part of a spiritual wilderness experience and there needs to be a casting off, of the works of darkness and a putting on, of the armour of Light to know who and what represents the enemy, that leaves us robbed and spoiled of great blessing and still feeding only on this light bread in the wilderness. * JESUS LOVES YOU. *
