Grateful to have a social justice ally at work today. On more than - TopicsExpress

Grateful to have a social justice ally at work today. On more than one occasion in my workplace Ive encountered ignorant stereotypical statements about Native Americans (and other races). I have done my best to educate and correct my peers on the racially sensitive things they say. However, today a peer decided to draw a headress on an emoji that was on a poster a manager put up. Jokes followed as others commented on the drawing. This would have been the 3rd time I had to confront a peer specifically about their Native American cultural insensitivity. Instead of trying to stay calm and educating my peers, yet AGAIN, I decided to walk away and consult my ally. Thankfully he was able to make it clear to my peers that such actions and comments were unacceptable. Cultural Leadership taught me how to have productive conversations about racially sensitive things but it also taught me that sometimes walking away can make a strong statement and allies are essential when trying to make a difference in your community.
