Gratitude Day 39 Nature: defined as the phenomena of the physical - TopicsExpress

Gratitude Day 39 Nature: defined as the phenomena of the physical world collectively including plants, animals, the landscape and other features and products of the earth as opposed to humans and human creations. Two challenges I have with this definition....it doesnt include waterways lakes, oceans rivers etc. and it separates humans from nature. We are at our core animals; highly elevated, spiritual beings with souls but as part of nature as any living creature on this earth. Georgia gave me a huge hug this morning and told me about the Baobab tree that is from Madagascar. It is a tree that saves water in its trunk the only tree of its kind and is used by Elephants in times of need to get water to survive. I knew that I would be writing about my gratitude for nature the second she told me. I was lucky to grow up in rural/suburban areas as a child. we had pastures, woods, creeks, lakes, fields and swamps to explore, study, enjoy and most of all experience. Most of these areas are now fully developed and built upon which is sad for future generations. We all love nature. I dont know of a single person out there who despises a cold mountain stream, a beautiful sunset, wooded areas teeming with wildlife pristine oceans with healthy coral reefs and all the sea life that thrives in that coral. There are however only small groups who are dedicated to saving, conserving and keeping natural areas natural. We all go about our days as hectare upon hectare of rain forest is destroyed, our oceans are decimated by destructive fishing methods and our air and water are steadily becoming more and more polluted with our by products of life. It is becoming harder and harder to escape to a natural place to enjoy the serenity of being surrounded by nature. I am certainly not pointing a finger without feeling culpable myself. There is much more that I could do personally and teach my children to do to live more harmoniously with nature, to cherish and protect it and realize its value for the generations to come. If each one of us did just a bit more to give back to mother earth for providing us with such an awe inspiring variety of plant and animal life, such precious foods that heal and sustain us and such powerful sights, sounds, taste, smells, and sensations then we could possibly turn things around. I think we can all agree that nature is becoming less and less available for us to experience and unless those of us that are using and abusing it now wake up and do something it may very well be gone for our future generations. Like the Western Black Rhino that recently became extinct. with Lisa Campbell McCorkle
