Graven Images Isaiah 42:17 King James Version (KJV) 17 They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods. how much importance do you place on that picture of Jesus Christ on the wall?i mean,is it the center of your faith? when you pray,do you pray TO it?when uncertainty arises,troubles beyond your control,do you clutch the crucifix around your neck,and say "Father help me"?when your in bumper to bumper traffic,or in an accident,do you look at the plastic Jesus on your dash,and say "help me Jesus!"?if you do any one of these things,you are worshipping false gods.thats right,you are committing idolatry. idol·a·try noun -tre plural idol·a·tries Definition of IDOLATRY 1 : the worship of a physical object as a god 2 : immoderate attachment or devotion to something there is no power in that picture,that piece of jewery,or that plastic statue.they are images; im·age noun 'i-mij Definition of IMAGE 1 : a reproduction or imitation of the form of a person or thing; especially : an imitation in solid form : statue 2 a : the optical counterpart of an object produced by an optical device (as a lens or mirror) or an electronic device b : a visual representation of something: as (1) : a likeness of an object produced on a photographic material (2) : a picture produced on an electronic display (as a television or computer screen) "1: a reproduction or imitation of the form of a person or thing;"the key words,,imitation,and reproduction;not the real thing.i believe thats the long,and the short of it.why would you worship"imitation"?well,for some,its their"tangible"god.meaning,they can touch it,place their hands on it.their personal faith is weak,or non existent.they must have something to place their weak faith in,for personal validation,for they truly dont recieve the knowledge of our Lord.for me,its that simple.thats a violation the first commandment; Deuteronomy 5:7-8 King James Version (KJV) 7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me. 8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: i myself,have a picture of Jesus Christ,made out of a wood slab,on the wall above my desk,does that make me an idolator?yes,if i worshipped that picture,but i dont.its a reminder,a physical reminder of who i serve,but its not Him,its a picture.i have several"Jesus"t-shirts i wear,quite often.do i pray to these t-shirts seeking deliverance from some issue or situation im in?no,they serve as reminder to others,as to who i serve,Jesus Christ,an open,and public profession; Luke 8:16 King James Version (KJV) 16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light. i want people to know my Lord,and wearing that shirt,might just spark interest in another brother or sister,who seeks to know Him as i do,and it serves as a "starting point",of conversation,that i pray will lead them to salvation.planting the seed. i use to wear a crucifix around my neck,but then it broke,after over 10 years of wearing it,a symbol of how foulible that"tangible",faith is.before it broke,it was pretty jewelry,with a meaning,now,its broken jewelry,but it still symbolizes my faith,though only now,i dont wear it.does that mean my faith is broken as well?ABSOLUTELY NOT.it just means my necklace is broke. family,its all about how we look at things,in a spiritual sense.how much faith we have,in an article,or"imitation",which should be NONE.we have pictures of our families and loved ones on the walls,and on our tables,do we talk to them?do we write letters to the picture,or call it on the phone to"catch up"?of course not,they are REMINDERS.of people we love,and adore.keep everything in perspective,and remember always; Deuteronomy 5:7 King James Version (KJV) 7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me.
