Gray Eagle redux: So, I thought I was clear that Gray Eagle (as in the tunes of that name) was originally a horse that ran against a horse named Wagner in the Oakland Pavillion race in Kentucky in 1839 (see this link and the link below). https://kentuckyonlinearts.wordpress/tag/grey-eagle/ But there is apparently more to it. In the Blue Ridge Music Center there is a multimedia presentation on the immigration of the Scots Irish that refers to the ships on which they migrated and cites the ship Gray Eagle as an example. And then theres the claim that Gray Eagle was Thomas Jeffersons favorite fiddle tune (and he died in 1826). Gray Eagle also seems to have been a famous Indian Chief. So do any of you have a clue as to the actual origin of the name Gray Eagle?
