Great loss,.Professor Mahmood Elahi ex head of Urdu deptt.Gorakhpur University passed away yesterday .He was Dy.Chairman of UP Urdu Academy when Vir Bahadur Singh was CM.He was considered to be a rough and tough man nothing to do with literature and poetry etc.But he has great regard for literary personalities and intellectuals. He once tried to contact Prof.Mahmood Elahi in Gorakhpur but he was in Lucknow.Vir bahadur ordered his staff to contact Professor Sb .It was known that he is staying in Muslim Musafir Khana Charbagh Lko. Vir Bahadur temper rose he burst up crying. Dy Chairman of UPUrdu Academy is staying in Musafir Khana this is shame for me and for my state.Is there no budget with Urdu Academy. Mathur (His PA) call Begam Saheba (Begam Hamida Habibullah who was Chairman of Academy (representing CM) and ask her how much more budget is needed.Some how Professor Sb and CM met and Vir Bahadur complained him regardoing his stay in Musafir Khana but professor Sb replied for the last so many years I am staying in that Musafir Khana whenever I come Lucknow why should now I increase the financial burden of UP Urdu Academy for my personal comfort. Such was his commitment and honesty.
