Now theyre more than doubling down: MAYOR’S OFFICE CAMPAIGN SUCCEEDS IN REPLACING 2,000 DESTROYED GIFTS FOR SENIORS IN SINGLE DAY; L.A.S FIRST LADY SETS NEW GOAL OF GIVING 4,500 SENIORS IN NEED A BAG OF JOY FOR THE HOLIDAYS Mayor Garcetti announced that after just one day of solicitation for donations by First Lady Amy Elaine Wakeland and the Mayors Fund for Los Angeles, all 2,000 Holiday Gift Bags that were destroyed in Mondays Downtown L.A. fire will be replaced due to the outpouring of support by Angelenos. Mondays fire destroyed Holiday Gift Bags filled with items donated mainly by city employees intended for homebound, frail, and other senior citizens in need. They had been assembled as part of Project CARE, a program of the citys Department of Aging. The Holiday Gift Bags included items like blankets, slippers, toiletries, postage stamps, and playing cards. Since the effort launched yesterday, more than 1,000 donors, including corporations and individuals, have contributed over $100,000 dollars, including an anonymous donation of $50,000. Donations can be made at mayorsfundla.org/donate/. Donations must be received by December 16.
