Great review from Coventry Evening Telegraph for The Selecter @ last nights Godiva Festival performance: The atmosphere was to grow even more, of course, with the arrival of the effervescent and omnipotent The Selecter. Led by Pauline Black – looking as flawless as ever – the band skipped their way through a whole host of dancefloor fillers. There was nonchalant dancing by the heap load, with fans in Doc Martens and braces breathing in every second of their idols. The set highlights were too many to mention, but ‘Train to Skaville’ and ‘James Bond’ showed why the band’s legacy has endured, while the romantic ‘Missing Words’ was another highpoint. Black stopped to conduct sing-alongs at points, and engaged with the crowd masterfully throughout. As the band ended their set with ‘Too Much Pressure’ – still sounding supreme and glorious almost 35 years since it’s recording – Black stopped to thank the crowd: “It has been a privilege,” she told her devoted pubic. The feeling is very much mutual, Pauline.
