Great time last night at Evanstons 27 Live hanging out with some great local musicians performing at a high level. Got started about an hour late...but hey, it was a Friday night, Im probably the only one who had to get up early this am, ythink? Brought the Average Joe Band a little before nine to start the evening before a good sized and eager audience. An hour or so later Michael Flynn s Crash Landing hit the stage. Formerly of the Flynn Brothers, the Mauds and his own North Of Memphis outfit, Mike never fails to bring a talented group for his hometown Evanston audience. They burned through a long set of classic rock faves including vintage material from ZZ Top(Waiting for the Bus), Elton John(Grey Seal), Zeppelin, Deep Purple etc. They were so eager to play I could barely get out of the way after my brief intro before they were jamming! Steve Taylor was amazing again on lead vocals, the guitarists including Michael and John were smokin and Miriam Sturm was on violin, always steller. Miriam has been touring with John Mellencamp for most of the last two decades and shell be going out again this winter on Johns upcoming Plain Spoken tour, coming to Chicago Theatre, Feb. 17th-18th. Enjoyed hanging backstage before the show and hearing her spin a few Mellencamp stories. Love the history and the fact that were still making new memories with great shows like last night.
