Greeting Friends, Racial profiling of African American males - TopicsExpress

Greeting Friends, Racial profiling of African American males and other minorities is a significant concern negatively impacting communities across our nation. Whether the behavior has been the result of police misconduct as in the recent killings of Jonathan Ferrell here in Charlotte and Mike Brown in Ferguson, MO, or of civilian misconduct as in the killings of Trayvon Martin and Renisha McBride we need to find a way to put an end to this scourge. Racial profiling makes all of us less safe and it demonstrates clearly how race continues to circumscribe some peoples lives...and deaths. It is in this vein that I reach out to you today and ask that you come to the Mecklenburg County Government Building tomorrow, September 22nd, at 6pm to the Charlotte City Council Meeting to show your support for an anti-racial profiling ordinance. Please come wearing a black shirt to demonstrate your solidarity with this initiative and bring as many friends or colleagues as you can with you. This effort has support from CMPD and many local organizations; now we need your support! I also want to let you know that the Moral Monday Movement will be sponsoring a Freedom Sabbath emphasizing the right to vote this weekend and a Moral March to the Polls across our state on October 23rd, the first day of early voting. Please watch for notes on these two concerns in the next several days. Thank you again for all that you are doing in support of peace and justice in our community. Gods Grace and Peace, Rodney S. Sadler, Jr., Ph.D. Associate Professor of Bible Union Presbyterian Seminary
