But my worst fears are now being realized. With introduction of travel bans and quarantines in order to combat the outbreak of the Ebola virus, it is having a devastating economic impact on our mission. The UN has issued a high-level food security alert for Sierra Leone and surrounding countries, warning us that the food crisis is expected to intensify in coming months. Local production of crops such as rice, maize has been scaled back due to a shortage of labour (people have abandoned their farms in fear of contracting the virus), this in turn is leading to sharp price hikes, rice for example, has risen by 150 to 500 per cent in just two weeks, if it can bee found. Our food stocks here will last no more than 2 months with rationing, and according to all reports, the situation will get worse before it gets better. I fear, that by Christmas we will be running on Empty. So I am appealing to Paradise 4 Kids in Australia and the USA to help us once again and organise a container of Food as soon as possible so that it may reach us before Christmas.
