Greeting is an act of communication in which human beings intentionally make their presence known to each other, to show attention to, and to suggest a type of relationship (usually cordial) or social status (formal or informal) between individuals or groups of people coming in contact with each other. If greeting is an act of human beings we are indeed becoming less human because there are many who will not greet. There are those who will stare at you as though you are E.T. but when you decide to greet them they look at you as though they only know sign language. Neighbors will come out living next door to each other for years and not greet. You get on the elevator and say good morning to those on it and they appear as though we are at a wake. The worst thing is when you greet someone and they give you the I Dream Of Jeannie nod because all you get is a bob from their head. All of the prophets from Adam to the last Mohammed (saw) greeted those they met with peace be upon you and this was a divinely inspired greeting to reflect the peace that should exist between human beings from all walks of life.
