It is an approach to service delivery that supports people with disabilities to live the lives they desire. Self-determination helps people, their families and friends determine their future, design their own support plans, choose the assistance they need to live full lives and control a personal budget for their supports. Individuals may use their individual budgets to hire their own staff, to purchase supports from a traditional agency or from an Agency With Choice, or may select a combination of these approaches.” “Employment First” is a nationwide initiative to improve the lives of those individuals with disabilities. to prepare for, find, and keep good jobs. Fairfield Public School’s would like to invite you and your student to come and listen to: Ms. Sandi Geer, Self-Determination Employment Instructor, West Region, Department of Developmental Service, & Members of the DDS Self-Advocate Coordinators Group in the West Region will review and discuss how support services for individuals with disabilities can be created and customized to your student’s specific needs when they exit the public education services. Ms. Rachel Soares is a Vocational Councilor for the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services and she will be presenting on services and supports from BRS; “the who, what when and how” of employment services from that agency. Format Each of our presenters will review their department’s philosophy and process for services and supports.
