Greetings from Duke. Melissa had a pretty bad day yesterday - TopicsExpress

Greetings from Duke. Melissa had a pretty bad day yesterday (Monday) but things are better today. She still has both tubes, but they have clamped off the nasal / stomach one to see if she is ok without it and if it can be removed. If so, then she can have clear liquids. She is completely off of the Dopamine (blood pressure support) for a couple of hours now, and her vital signs are perfect. They think her body self-corrected to regain autonomic control of body temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure. Having that function is another step of healing. They were teaching the method to evaluate her neurology to the nurse practitioner, and afterwards I told him it reminded me of the hopscotch method of electrical troubleshooting. He said their process had no name, and he was going to recommend they call it that. Carol has contacted both of the patient representative managers with Duke and the Shepherd Center to advise them of the strides made in just the last few hours. We have not heard back from them. I have not seen Carol today, but in talking with her, I think she is, as I am, in the best frame of mind we have been in since Saturday night, July 12th. The t-shirt company has contacted Alpha Chi Omega about possibly doing follow-ups on all of this because it has literally gone almost viral across the entire nation. Also, as of early this morning, 1738 people had read my last facebook report; thats incredibly uplifting. I think Jeff Dunovant is stopping by on his way from a Raleigh meeting to give me a report on Melissas stuff that he helped unload. Visitors are still being limited due to her general level of discomfort so check with one of us before you come if you want to see her. Typically one of us is in the ICU waiting room depending on the time of day and who is spending the night. Taylor (Tay) remains by her side. He is a real trooper, I mean ALE agent. We all remain uplifted by your care, Steve
