Greetings from Kirsten, your Summit County Youth Services librarian! Here’s some GREAT news for you families with beginning readers. We often have patrons looking for “level 2” or “the next step up from blue” or some other kind of confusing leveled reader indicator. Too bad that every publisher (and there are many) has a different idea about just what constitutes a “level 3” or a “red level.” SO, we’ve made it easy for you by coming up with five colored labels for five different reading levels—from pre-reader books where parents and children share the reading, all the way to books for accomplished readers to read on their own, and everything fun that’s in between. Stop by your local Summit County branch library and check out our new system—watch for these five colors: yellow, blue, orange, green and red—yes, it’s that easy. LEVELED READERS ARE FUN! FUN! FUN!
