Greetings people: Being an anti-facebookian at heart, I didnt know about this Drake group till recently. Even then it took a while to figure out the complexities of joining it. Sad when you think about it. Anywho, I have a major home project in mind that hopefully someone here knows about. Im sure weve all seen the youtube videos about the Virtual Organ software. Google hauptwerk. Has anyone here played or heard live an organ using this software? Im contemplating building a practice organ for home that uses it. There are places that sell all the electronic hardware, keyboards, pistons, etc. for the DIY organ builder. Id build the console then try to con Kent Bates into hooking it all up (hes good with that kind of stuff). Please let me know if anyone has first hand experience with this technology. I officially gave up playing the organ a good 15+ years ago. My pedal technique and basic coordination is long gone but I think its recoverable. I have a French double harpsichord that Ive kept up with over the years so manual technique is less rusty. I estimate that for a scant $15 to $18 grand I can build a 3-manual practice organ using mail order parts. Its a lot but way less than even the most mediocre of used Allens or Rodgers, and the sound is a thousand times better. If this project comes to fruition it wont be for a while but Ill no-doubt bore you all with updates over time.
