Greetings to all far and wide. Thoughts and prayers to those in western NY....and northern NY.....just cold and windy here in Syracuse, perhaps with some snow overnight tonight. Time to stock up on some salt for the driveway and sidewalk. As you know salt is something you sprinkle on food to give it more flavor. But did you know that out of every 100 pounds of salt produced, only five pounds of it goes to the dinner table? The rest is used for a variety of things like making glass and soap, tanning leather, and melting ice. Salt was once very valuable so people were very careful how they used it. Today, its so plentiful and ordinary that you take it for granted and never think about its value. Its one of those things thats just there....until you go on a picnic and have fresh tomatoes and NO salt because somebody forgot to bring it. Do you ever take your friends or family for granted because theyre just there? Think about your friends and family.....esp. this time of year....and think about how valuable they are. We use the word salt in different ways too. Someone who is very dependable might be called the salt of the earth. A former sailor might be called an old salt. And a flavorful story might be called a bit salty. But most of the time, salt just sits in its cellar, taken for granted. Forgive us, Lord.....if we sometimes treat you that was as well. We take You for granted because You are always there.....always waiting to spice up our life if we will just pay attention and value your friendship and unique presence in our lives. Well if the trains are running and not cancelled....Ill be on my way tomorrow and will be returning Monday afternoon, thus no posts for a few days.....So Ill leave you with this tidbit: What should you do it youre attacked by a gang of clowns????? Go for the juggler! (Even a pacifist could muster a grin at that......) Have a good few days everyone.....keep the Sabbath....pray well....be of gentle heart.
