Marie Greyhounds acquired world junior gold medallist Nick Ritchie in a trade with the Peterborough Petes on Wednesday. The Greyhounds also picked up Connor Boland in the deal while Peterborough received Kyle Jenkins and four draft picks — second round 2015, third round 2017, second round 2019 and second round 2020. Ritchie, in his fourth season in the OHL, is coming off a gold-medal performance with Canada at the world junior hockey championship in Toronto in which he scored one goal in seven games. He has two previous gold medals with the national under-18 squads at both the 2012 Ivan Hlinka memorial tournament and 2013 IIHF World U18 Championship. Ritchie has 14 goals and 18 assists in 25 games with the Petes this season. Last year, he led Peterborough with 74 points in 61 games (39 goals and 35 assists). The Orangeville, Ont., native was selected in the first round (10th overall) in the 2014 NHL draft by the Anaheim Ducks and signed a three-year entry-level contract in August. Boland is in his fifth and final season in the OHL. He has three goals and eight assists in 36 games, matching his career best totals. He also served as the Petes captain this 2014-15 season. Sounds like a big night for the OHLs Soo Greyhounds. Expect them to land both Nick Ritchie (Peterborough) and Anthony DeAngelo (Sarnia). — Jeff Marek (@JeffMarek) January 8, 2015 ift.tt/1gB4pon
