Grief is a circular and a spiral motion that travels up and down - TopicsExpress

Grief is a circular and a spiral motion that travels up and down and all around. Before I ever knew what that meant I had experienced it first hand and didn’t even know what is was. So from my own experience I will explain the best I can. Just like in everyday life we have are ups and downs and side stepping and backward motions. That is what life is all about so why would it be any different when it comes to grieving. Grief isn’t a straight forward motion. It is a series of ups and downs and all a rounds and some days it may be mostly backward or stuck in the same place or side stepping or and some days we can actually feel our movement forward and when this happens a lot of time we feel guilty so we stop our own movement forward until we feel it is okay. This is all very normal and part of the grieving process. So on those days you feel you are right back where you started just know you are not there but just allowing grief to do its job. Sometimes grief has to bring you back to a place to show you just how far you have come. Even though you don’t think you are moving along in the process because you seem to repeat a phase or return to a place from the beginning of your path. Just know you could never return to that same place because that place is gone and what you are experiencing is grief allowing you to return to that emotion and it does that because you are not ready to go a little further. So never worry about feeling you are going backward in your grief. It just can’t happen. Weather you believe it or not you are moving forward just not in the way most people would think that is. Moving forward isn’t always a linier move or a one foot in front of another kind of movement. More often than not it is a mix of side steps and backward steps that are forwarding your process believe it or not. Love you all, Liz
