At the Washington Veterans Cemetery our Grounds and Nursery Specialists are important to keeping our grounds looking pristine and beautiful. As a Grounds and Nursery Specialist 2, you will ensure that our veterans and families final resting place is well taken care of and maintained and assist with the burial processes and building upkeep and maintenance. If you have experience with landscaping and grounds maintenance this is a great opportunity use your skills and honor our veterans and their families. DUTIES . Maintains the landscape around the facility, interment and memorial areas by seeding the lawn, preparing areas for planting trees, bushes and flowers, mowing and trimming the grass, and pruning trees and bushes using hand and power tools . Weeds, fertilizes, and applies pesticides to the grounds . Installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation systems . Operates equipment including but not limited to backhoe, dump truck, skidsteer, mowers, blowers, trimmers, and various hand tools . Removes snow and ice from parking lots, walkways and steps . Participates in burial processes such as opening and closing graves, placing caskets and/or cremations, and setting headstones . Reads and interprets gravesite layout maps to ensure the proper placement of gravestones and markers . Helps to guide volunteers that are planting and caring for the grounds . Assist with special projects as needed . Performs maintenance and repairs to equipment, buildings, and facilities as needed Qualifications: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS . High school diploma or equivalent . Valid Drivers License . Professional experience performing landscaping and ground maintenance . Professional experience in equipment and building maintenance and repair . Equipment operating experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS . Two years of experience in gardening, plant care, landscape construction, and ground maintenance SPECIAL CONDTIONS OF EMPLOYMENT . Work is primarily outside in all environmental conditions including high and low temperatures, rain, snow, direct sun, and wind. . Physical and manual labor is a large portion of the essential functions of this position. Ability to stand, walk, bend, be in various uncomfortable positions, and sit for prolonged periods of time is necessary.
