Group Input Needed: Please post anon: Just when I thought things were actually going well... Just goes to show we should never let our guards down. My 16.5 yr old son informed me yesterday that he has been yelled at by his dad every single day theyre together. I feel so helpless, though I am trying to arm my son with the words and reactions he needs to get through his week. I told him this week to simply listen to understand, dont argue back and stay calm. Easier said than done, though! Unfortunately, exN and I have 50/50 custody and where I live, there is a waiting period to change any of the court documents. By the time Id be able to change them, my son would be 18, so theres no sense. In the meantime, though, its so hard to hear what he tells me about being with his dad. He doesnt want to be there, but he has no rights and no choice. I was told by our police that if my son doesnt go there, then I am in contempt of court for not upholding the decree that says he has to be at his dads house on Sundays. I try to call him a few times a week just to give him calmness and respect and responsibility, but its so difficult as a mother to hear how much hes suffering and sometimes I feel guilty... that its my fault hes having to deal with this because before, I was his buffer. I protected him 100% from his dads crazy side. Coping through all of this is the hardest part. Thank you to all of you for being such a pillar of strength to me. I always turn to your comments when Im feeling like this and while its never a cure, it sure is good to know Im not alone and I have you all to lean on.
