Growing up I played with worms, in the mud, on my bike with my sisters we sat on the floor and bicycled our legs together. We play body slam and colored with our parents. We interacted. Tv and computers slowly have taken over. Taken away from quality family time. I have always said I would prefer not to have cable because I see how much it interferes. And now that we have Athena its even more important for me to have her develop her cognitive and motor skills. She does this by playing with toys and watching the world. Not by being transfixed in tv. I do not judge parents who allow their children under the age of two watch tv. To each their own. But I have made a conscious decision to keep Athena from too many electronics. I want to sit at dinner and talk to my children. I want to know their hopes and dreams. I want to spend the quality time my parents spent with me before electronics became our new normal. People think Im crazy for having so much anxiety about Athena watching tv but she is my daughter and I know what is best for her. And as I thank my parents now at 25 years old I know she will do the same. I do not think Im a better parent just because I do not want Athena to watch tv or video games. With the research I have done I just do not see how it benefits them.
