Growing up, My parents disciplined me the best way they knew how. - TopicsExpress

Growing up, My parents disciplined me the best way they knew how. When my sibs and got outta line, they would sternly call us back. If we didnt heed to their verbal warning, they would then use a modern day staff (what shepherds used to tend to their sheep) to guide us back on track. My pops staff of choice was often his size 13 church shoe, (man, I hated that shoe) and my mothers staff of choice was this wooden spoon that she would keep in her purse. Kinda weird how moms would later end up switching to the shoe after all the spoons in the house started mysteriously disappearing. Not saying any names. (Vaka) Every now and again, my grandmother would be around to rescue me from my dads heavy hand of love while my dad would remind her that this is how she disciplined him. A few years ago, Something crazy happened. As one of my brothers was getting ready to carry on tradition and to physically discipline his child... My dad jumped up and grabbed his granddaughter defending her just like... Deja Vu. How my grandma used to rescue me. Now I dont have kids And I love and respect my mom and dad very much today. I am grateful that they did their best and stopped using physical discipline when they did. But there are things that I will do differently. And one of those things is not confuse violence with love. Just because physical discipline was a good idea growing up, is it the best idea? And I guess if it changes when you become a grandparent, we should re-look at it. Check this article, Id love to hear your thoughts. #closertohome #maybetooclosetohome #lovemyfolkstho #givethanks
