Growing up in the ghetto, society labeled my circumstance as underprivileged. Now, getting to know by white friend’s background, most of whom grew up in the suburbs - I see that they were actually much more disadvantaged than I. Why? Parents. Many of their parents had major issues. My parents did not. My threats were outside the home. Theirs were in the home. So, for a child, growing up in a privileged or underprivileged circumstance may have more to do with quality of parents than quantity of cash.
