Growing up, my parents worked hard to instill in us the absolute - TopicsExpress

Growing up, my parents worked hard to instill in us the absolute need for and the importance of common courtesy; a thing, that, with each passing day seems to exist less commonly. Simply uttering words as PLEASE and THANK-YOU, holding open a door to a stranger, and, otherwise treating people with a tiny show of respect are behaviors not doled put by all; with this being quite unfortunate, to say the least; for at the very least, we ought to be able to offer this type regard to folks in general. For those of us who were raised to be considerate of others, those of us who believe in working to uphold the Golden Rule being such comes naturally; and for this reason, I am, often a bit surprised when, due to my thoughtful-nature, someone makes a remark about my respectful treatment of them. I say this, NOT to bring attention to myself in the way of patting myself on the back, I am not bragging or being boastful; for this is, simply me...who I am...how I was raised; No...I bring this up for the mere fact, that, if my showing courtesy to a person inspires them to remark on said courtesy, then...well, then...there is far too LITTLE of this going around in the world; at least this is how I see things. Can my asking a stranger how he or she is truly be THAT remarkable a feat? Does my Have a nice day! said to someone I encounter honestly take them aback? It does, INDEED, seem so at times; for people HAVE told me how I made their day, merely by demonstrating what I perceive to be courteous treatment of others. Either that or I, completely, catch them off guard I dont know which is worse! How sad is that, I ask? VERY! The existence of overall positivity in my life, today, plus a great upbringing during my formative-years equates to my desire for being a good and decent human-being and I work diligently, every single day, to be this person because I believe its important to show positivity, to be upbeat, and to display kindness and courteous-behavior toward all human-kind. I will continue, regardless the pervasiveness of negative and, often, rude behavior shown by some, to remain steadfast in my effort to treat others as I would myself, to not say anything about another unless its something good and to, otherwise, BE the change I wish to see in the world. Sounds good to me! Just Sayin...
