Guatemala: Fourth Global Producer of Palm Oil: With an annual production of 350,000 tons of palm oil, only Colombia, Ecuador and Honduras produce more than Guatemala. The data was disclosed during the First Latin American Palm Growers Congress held in Antigua Guatemala. Statistics reveal that 30% of the production is consumed in the country and the rest is exported as raw materials to Mexico, Central America, Europe and the U.S. Jose Santiago Molina, chief of the Union of Palm Growers of Guatemala (Grepalma), stated that in Guatemala there are 120 thousand hectares of this product. There is interest from farmers and small producers in diversifying and through this increasing the amount of sown area, he said.
