Guilt(Matt 27:1-5). Guilt refers to remorse or self-reproach caused by feeling that one is responsible for a wrong or offence. Most people in the Bible and even today had done several things all because of the guilt they felt. Some choose to believe in the complete power of Jesus to wash away sins and the ability of God to clean our slates, wipe our errors and blot out our transgressions (Isa 1:18), Isa 43:25). Some believe in the power of forgiveness, but have not completely accepted the fact that their sins are not remembered by God anymore. The stories of Peter and Judas show two ways in which people react to the remorse they feel from sin. Peter after realising he had sinned, wept bitterly but his remorse did not stop him from proclaiming Christ(Mt 26:69-75). Judas on the other hand, felt remorse for what he had done and went to hang himself, probably because he couldnt live with the guilt of his sin. When we seek forgivenness, the right attitude to guilt is to have a heart that will not commit that sin again. We should be careful not to allow the devil to torment us with the feeling of depression and the thought that we are inadequate or less important to God due to our sins. Forgive yourself for the sins you have committed and learn to tap into the saving power of Christ with the decision not to go back into the sin. Happy Sunday friends. God bless us.
