Gun-toting controversy: Kashmir Police suspend MLA’s security men Srinagar -- A day after outgoing chief minister Omar Abdullah in Indian administered Kashmir dared police to register a case against PDP MLA from Sonawar Muhammad Ashraf Mir, the security wing of police today placed two of his security men under suspension. Highly placed sources told Authint Mail, two of Mirs security men, Muhammad Shafi and Nissar Ahmad have been suspended and departmental inquiry has been initiated against the duo for alleged misconduct and showing unbecoming behaviour in the public life. We have suspended both of MLAs security personnel with immediate effect, a high rung police official, wishing not to be named said. Police has also initiated departmental inquiry against the duo, the official said. The action has been initiated by security wing of Jammu Kashmir Police. The controversy surfaced after newly elected PDP MLA from Sonawar Muhammad Ashraf Mir was firing several rounds from an automatic rifle on the day of Assembly poll results. The chief minister Omar Abdullah has asked police to register a case against PDP MLA from Sonawar Mohammad Ashraf Mir. So will J&K police register a case against the gun toting MLA or will they be too scared in case hes a minister a few days from now? Omar asked on micro-blogging site Twitter. The PDP chap let off an AK 47 to celebrate his victory over me. Thank goodness I didnt lose Beerwah!!! I wonder what they would have fired! the National Conference working president said further in his tweet. Police sources said that the duo was infamously known for their activities in Special Operation Group (SOG) during nineties in Indian administered Kashmir. Condemnable Act National Conference general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar Saturday urged police to file an FIR against the accused for his unlawful act and said that the act shows the arrogance of PDP. The video went viral on Friday on social networking applications, showing Mir purportedly firing several rounds in air from an AK-47 rifle at his residence on the day of poll results. Sagar while condemning the MLAs act said, The act clearly shows the arrogance of the PDP. Such reckless and unlawful behavior from an elected lawmaker was unfortunate and unacceptable. The Police should immediately file FIR against him and should not turn a blind eye towards Mirs unlawful behaviour, Sagar told local newsgathering agency KNS. He said it is unfortunate that PDP leadership is silent over the issue. PDP leadership should speak on the issue rather than to keep silence. The Mufti Mohammad Syed should render an apology on behalf of the party and to take disciplinary action against the erring PDP leader, Sagar said. How can an MLA resort to firing a gun in broad daylight? It was the PDP who before the poll results said that they have cancelled all the celebrations in view of the recent floods and Peshawar massacre, but the fact is that they after getting majority of the seats forget their promises and celebrated it in such reckless manner, he said. Meanwhile Mir who denied having fired any rounds has defeated Omar Abdullah from Sonawar assembly segment in Srinagar by a margin of over 4,700 votes, becoming the first politician here to register a victory over an incumbent chief minister.
