Gustav Deutsch who is mostly known for his foundfootage productions, will present with his art-director Hanna Schimek on the 31st of May his movie Shirley – Visions of Reality. Shirley - Visions of Reality is based upon the paintings of American painter Edward Hopper. The movie brings thirteen paintings to life. (Among those: Office at Night, Western Motel, Usherette en A Woman in the Sun) Shirley, a politically engaged American actrice hopes to influence the course of history and her life. Turbulent years pass by in sharp lines, colours and lightning like Hopper painted his vision of America. The main character of the movie Shirley, is also a reappearing character in the paintings of Hopper. Tuesday the 27th at 19.15, E*Cinema organizes Gustav Deutsch meets Edward Hopper. Shirley –Visions of Reality will go in premiere at EYE. EYE-curator Expanded Cinema Mark-Paul Meyer and film connoisseur/programmer Jan van den Brink will after talk about the relation between the movie and Hopper’s paintings. They will also show other film fragments of other moviemakers who were inspired by Hopper. After, the installation of Deutsch, Associative Image Atlas, will be presented.
