Guy Heinze Jr., the man accused of killing eight people in a mobile home four years ago, will watch from the defense table today as lawyers select a jury that could determine if he will be sentenced to death. Scarecrows have been placed throughout St. Marys historic district for the annual Hay Days celebration that commemorates the start of autumn. The event gives residents and businesses along Osborne Street, the citys waterfront and residential areas an opportunity to show their creativity. After weeks of stubborn gridlock, the Senates top two leaders raced on Monday to reach an agreement that could head off a Treasury default that threatens severe national economic damage and reopen the government after a two-week partial shutdown.
