Guys, I have a question I have a young female, driven, attentive, solid, intelligent, trained on bumpers and shot birds in the classroom. I gave her to a friend of mine to hunt through the first of the season because she was pretty solid in the classroom and I expected her to do just fine in the field. First morning, she was Spectacular. A woody was shot, she was ears up, watching the sky, shaking to get going. She was broke. Perfect retrieve, no issues. Did the same thing on the next 2 Next morning, she went out, lots of enthusiasm, lots of interest. Watched the sky, perked up when birds came in. Down birds, sent for the retrieve, hit the water with a 4 ft jump swam out to the bird, nosed it, left it there. Came back in. sent her again, nosed it, left it there. She was not reprimanded harshly at all, It has progressed to where she is absolutely not listening, running away, tail, between her legs, wants nothing to do with the birds, is hunkering down like she has been beat, or flinching away when a voice is raised. I was hard on this dog one time when she challenged me. That is all it took to get control, she has worked like a champ for me for 8 months, driven, having fun, enjoying her job. Like I said, first morning it looked perfect. Now you would think she is beaten and over worked. Question is, she is in Heat. Has any of you ever had a dog that absolutely seemed to lose its mind when they are in heat? Or is there something else going on. I do know that she was allowed inside and much more spoiled by my friends wife than I myself do with my dogs.
