Guys, today I need your attention more than ever…. Yesterday, I visited Bethlehem Children’s Home in Soweto to find out how those kids we are supporting are doing. I was glad that all of them were fine, grateful to you as usual, and they also passed their regards. Now, as you all know, our mission this term was to take one of the class 8 candidates to form 1 and that’s what I went there to confirm. I was glad that some sponsors picked some students from the school to support their secondary education, but the secretary told me that the problem with such sponsors is, they only select the top students. Those who don’t perform quite well don’t get a chance, and she gave me a girl called Rebecca as an example. She is a disciplined and humble girl at the Children’s Home. She’s gone through a lot in her life, thus getting too little time to settle. And as the exams were catching up, she didn’t perform well. She got 243 marks out of 500. No sponsor or well-wisher seemed to notice her. So I choose her, knowing very well that me and you can make a difference. I know we’ve done this before, and I also understand it’s still January, or rather Njaanuary. But I once told you that if you can’t share that 200 bob you have, there is no way you will ever share that a million bob you’ve been praying for. Ata stima yangu iko karibu kukatwa hii Njaanuary. But I’d rather stay in the dark for a night, so someone somewhere can see the light for the rest of her life. My plan is simple, we can team up as we usually do, provide hope for Rebecca by taking her to secondary school, counsel her, and let her know that her dreams are still valid. I’ll leave you with that for now. I want those of you who are in with me, to tell me now. I haven’t yet identified a school for her because I don’t even know what we will raise.
