G’MA STORY: #2 I was visiting with G’ma last week and enjoying my being a little girl time with her. Sometimes I will put my head on her soldier and close my eyes, inhale her scent deeply and rub her arm as I remember a time when things were more simplistic. Days when we could sit on those green rockers on our porch in the projects and pick beans. A time when she could tell me about how she worked at the dry cleaners or even out in the fields of SC. Recalling years ago when she would cook for people after church, or even lead song services. Moments when I remembered her falling asleep on the couch with the Bible in her lap. Interrupting my thoughts was the director who came over to say hello to us. We chatted for a few minutes as she was giving me an update on how G’ma was doing. I always feel as if I am at a parent/teacher conference almost, getting an update on my child’s progress and behavior. Director: Hey G’ma! How are you doing today? G’ma: I’m good. That’s a pretty dress you have on. Director: Thank you G’ma! G’ma is touching the material and fingering it between her thumb and forefinger. G’ma: It’s so soft, and I love the pattern. Turn around and let me see the back. Director turns around. G’ma: (eyes get big and she leans back) WHEW!! You got a big ole booty!!!! Me: SMH Director: LOL yes I do G’ma. I need to lose some of that junk in my trunk don’t I? G’ma: I don’t know about the junk, but you shole gotta lot of butt there in behind! My G’ma…..gotta love her!
