HADLEYVILLE ON MY MIND 37. MAUREEN ARRIVES! Okay! Maureeen showed up over at Mr. Bass’s last night about dark. None of us had ever laid eyes on her before, so we didn’t have any idea what to expect. She’s a right pretty lady, although I would gather not near as pretty as she thinks she is. She has a guy tagging along with her who goes by the name of Dennis Overstreet. He’s somewhat older, and while a decent-looking fellow, is looking a little the worse for wear from the years. By the accent, I’d say he’s of up-East origin. He says he’s her agent and that Maureen is destined for a career in show business. When I heard that, I’m afraid I was pretty sure why he and Maureen were down here, but I guess we’ll have to wait a little bit and see. I hope my suspicions are not entirely correct, but I’m afraid they may be. Time will tell.
