Hi OTs! Just wanting to gauge interest in something like this before I go ahead and plan something…I am very passionate about education and networking with other like-minded OTs. I am dreaming up a 3-4 day education retreat to somewhere like Costa Rica. The goal would be to have anywhere between 6-12 OTs who are trained as instructors of a program/teach their own developed course sign up to come as the main “presenters”, and then invite other OTs to attend to learn from these presenters. These other OTs could plan to bring their favorite handouts/resources to share with others as well. The big difference with what I’m planning would be that it would be a “retreat” of sorts because it would be held somewhere like a resort or private cabins where participants would be encouraged to stay, and so then there could be a whole lot of more connecting/teaching/learning/treating each other that could happen over the 4 days! I would love to make more awesome OT connections in this fashion, and I have found that these connections often happen over several days and after hours hanging out with people (that you don’t often get from attending courses). This idea also excites me because it would also be considered a much needed vacation! What I could offer is to teach a shorter version of the Rhythmic Movement Training (RMT) reflex integration method of intervention as I am an RMT 1 & 2 instructor (I feel like much of this work are “power tools” to help with sensory integration, anxiety, regulation, coordination, etc.). I could also teach people a version of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) as well. I also have some other connections with other OTs I have made over the years who are instructors of various programs whom I could ask if they would be interested in such an event. I need to figure out what the costs would be per person, but I have a connection in Costa Rica who could offer us a great deal and he also knows about some great deals on flights. So what I am wondering from all of you is: 1) Would you be interested in such a retreat? Would Costa Rica right next to the beach be a desirable location for you? Is there a better month of the year for you to be able to attend this retreat? 2) Do you have a specific method that you could offer to teach at this retreat? Thanks everyone!
