** HANDY TIP **How to get the most from your Candles The first time you burn a candle sets the stage for the life of the candle. The size of the wax pool on the initial burn is pretty much the size of the opening from there on out. So if you only burn the candle for an hour or so, and have a really small wax pool, the dry hard wax around the outside edge will almost never burn. Always trim the wick to 1/4 inch before lighting Keep candles out of draughts - if the flame flickers - its in a draught Room temperature does affect the candles burn, if wax is too cold it will take longer to pool across the jar A general rule is the wax burns across the jar an inch an hour , so if your jar is 3 across it will need to be lit minimum of 3 hrs to pool properly across for an even burn. If your candle does start to look like picture 1 , a quick fix is to wrap the jar in tin foil leaving a small air hole at the top (its not a pretty look but it Does Work), this helps keep the heat in the jar and speeds up the pooling process to allow the unused side wax to melt and even out . If you have let the jar tunnel too far down , all is not wasted , you can chop out the side wax and use it in your burner but worth trying the foil first . Myself i always use either an Illuma lid on my jars or one of the shades as my house has very little heating and is cold in winter months - both protect from draughts and help the burn and are worth investing in at least one or the other If you are having issues with burning your candles we are always here to help, feel free to ask anytime ....if you found this guide helpful please feel free to share with other candle lovers
