HAPPY BIRTHDAY South African artists - Marlene Dumas and Cyprian Shilakoe! Marlene Dumas (3 August 1953 - ) is a South African-born artist and painter who lives and works in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In the past Dumas produced paintings, collages, drawings, prints and installations. She now works mainly with oil on canvas and ink on paper. Unlike most of the first group of artists at Rorke’s Drift, Cyprian Mpho Shilakoe (3 August 1946 - September 1972) preferred working in linocut, concentrated on producing etchings that were often combined with aquatint. He was closely associated with Dan Rakgoathe and, like him, his work has a profound visionary quality.
