HAPPY MADARAKA DAY MOLO CONSTITUENCY Today is Madaraka day, the following is my goodwill message to molo constituents I salute you all on this auspicious occasion of our 51st Madaraka Day. On this day, we remind ourselves of the day in 1963, when we assumed responsibility over the affairs of our constituency and country. Today, we remember and appreciate the men and women whose personal sacrifice led to Kenya’s freedom. We also recall the journey we have taken since then, towards making Molo a peaceful, prosperous and vibrant constituency. The idea of Madaraka is fundamental to our constituency and we must never forget that it is our solemn duty to develop our constituency and country. It is our responsibility to make Molo a Working and Caring constituency, where every individual is given the opportunity to reach their full potential. In turn we can collectively make Molo constituency a better home for all of us. This responsibility and obligation lies not only with the Government and its leadership, but with every constituent. It is therefore fitting, that on this Madaraka day, we salute all the constituents who have made enormous contributions to our constituency in the political, social, cultural, and economic spheres. Let us take this moment to salute our unsung heroes; the farmers, workers, teachers, nurses, doctors, policemen and women, businessmen and women, soldiers, public servants, and many others. Their daily sacrifice, hard work, dedication and innovation continue to make Molo constituency a much better place to live in. Their endeavors truly embody the spirit of self reliance, responsibility and obligation. This is the essence of Madaraka. We are marking this year’s Madaraka day at a time when our economy is finally experiencing a steady growth. This is because Molo constituents, even under difficult conditions, continue to work hard to improve their individual and collective welfare. Though the rains so far have been erratic the government has provided free farm inputs to over 1500 families and like none other year before, subsidized fertilizer have been widely available. In this regard, relevant Government agencies are working closely with farmers in the constituency to improve productivity and to reduce post harvest losses by properly storing their produce. As the Jubilee Government, we remain concerned by youth unemployment and its impact on our economy. I am aware of the priority we must place in job creation in our constituency because widespread employment is the way to generate income and wealth. Employment also enhances individual self-worth, and knits together the social fabric of families, communities and our constituency and nation. I therefore note the intervention created by devolution and a vibrant timber sector together with a thriving agribusiness sector in our constituency. However, I am fully aware that we need much more job created by the private sector and the rest of the economy. I am keenly aware of the need to train our youth to make them more marketable. We are therefore rejuvenating Molo polytechnic which will impart marketable technical skills to our youth. New village polytechnics in all wards will be launched to ensure the constituency has sufficient skilled technicians. The constituency will also benefit from 1 technical training institute and a KMTC, as we continue consultations and negotiations to have a university campus or a constituent college. The ongoing rural electrification and rural roads access programs will also be facilitated in every part of the constituency. Currently the government has mapped out electrification program for all primary schools in the constituency and work is going on at mutate primary school in Kapsita area. In terms of homestead electrification my office together with REA are finalizing a work plan which is aimed at achieving a 80% electrification by 2016. As a constituency we are making provision for the most vulnerable members of our society, by providing cash transfer programs to orphans and the elderly. The direct cash disbursement under social protection for older persons increased significantly from 88 persons to 435 persons this year. This program is set to be launched in coming weeks. Last week we launched the Orphans and Vulnerable Children presidential bursary by disbursing ksh 1.29 million to 96 beneficiaries. Cash transfer for the same group is likewise set to be launched. Since no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of insecurity, we remains focused in the fight against crime. In this connection, I have provided funding for construction of police posts in kapsita, mukinyai murimo and muchorwe. We are also exploring the possibilities of establishing a police station at Turi trading centre and completing the sachangwan police post. In addition to this, the government has provided 1 vehicle to the CID department and we expect to be allocated 2 more police vehicles and a replacement for the department of interior operation vehicles. Besides improving security, I am saddened by the frequent reports of fatal road accidents. This is a situation that must be contained. We cannot afford to continue losing innocent lives simply because of the recklessness of public transport operators and failure to enforce the Highway Code by the police. I therefore have lined up a motion in parliament to compel the government to develop a bypass from jogoo area to Nakuru to separate HCV vehicles from the general traffic along the Sachangwan area where in recent times we have lost many souls. As a constituency we want to see in place a sustainable long term program involving both the police and the general public in reducing road carnage. I must, however, reiterate the need for peaceful co-existence if we are to achieve our social and economic development targets. Today Molo constituency is a comfortable home for all communities living working and utilizing resources as one people. I call upon the media and civil societies working in the constituency to play their role of promoting the public interest. In particular, I challenge media houses to play an objective watchdog role by naming and shaming those people who may engage in hate speech, lies and negative ethnic persuasion. HAPPY MADARAKA DAY TO YOU ALL LETS MAKE MOLO GREAT AGAIN THANK YOU
