HAPPY WORLD REFUGEE DAY. It is a great day for the refugees in world and the refugees in Kenya-Dadaab camps. On this day, it might have so many celebrations for different people in different countries around the globe. But, it is a special day to the Somali refugees who have been living in the camps for so long, and today they take time to express their feelings and the most thankful to the host nation-Kenya. Let’s be thankful to the Kenyan government which managed to contribute everything possible to the refugees. They gave our people security, education, land (to settle in) and even identification cards (aliens). We managed to live in peacefully throughout the years we have been staying, as we know it is a healing for some people being in the camps. Now nobody is ready to remember the past, we are refugees by misfortune, but not by status. I mean, we no longer depend on WFP. In life, wonders come and go. It might sound wonderful when a boy or a girl is born in the camps in early days to the arrival and yet he/she begets in the camp, I can say they deserve much respect. The population and economy both grew. I remember, Dadaab County was just like no man’s land when refugees arrived first, and now it is more like a district than a county. The international community says for any person staying in a country for more than five years, he or she deserves to earn a citizenship. So, Do the Somali refugees in Kenya deserve citizenship? I wish I were a Kenyan Mp, I could have brought such a motion in the Kenyan parliament. You don’t take me wrong because of what I write and you say, ‘‘don’t we have a federal government functioning?’’ the answer is big NO. To this government, it only controls inside Mogadishu, some say only villa Somalia. To my topic: world refugee day, how many of you have ever celebrated for world refugee day? I hope a good number of my friend list will click “LIKE” button for this answer, because 2 million estimated Somali refugees are around the globe, which is why I am expecting a huge response. For those of my friends who don’t understand English then it is this way “DABAL DEGA MALINTA QAXOOTIGA ADUUNKA” You should not be worried about being a refugee, you are not, and it is only by time. Look at what is happening in the Middle East especially in Syria. They have good natural resources like fuel, and yet almost one million Syrian are under tent right now. Who on earth can believe that was a forthcoming disaster to them or one day they will seek refuge? We only look and pray to them God as we know the pains in it. Prosperity never stays if you are not thankful to God. It is not because you live in a good environment and you end up forgetting the provider-Allah. I agree, when you are in prosperous life, you forget the existence of poverty. As I write this article, I recall the first day i sat in a nursery class, I was so excited to learn and write something. We were so many young children both boys and girls sitting under a DHAY DHAY tree, who ever heard that name knows it. We were shouting so terrible and we could not hear the song sung by the teacher very well,’’NASKIA SAUTI, SAUTIA MAMA”. As usual a nursery pupil should be taught first how to sing a song before anything else. Another song which I remember was: Ooo jumping jumping jumping, My father was a jumper, My mother was a too, We are jumping family. Life is interesting when are young and you don’t need to think about this damn world. All I could remember was, wake up early, go to DuGSI and then pack my dirty books in a small back made from JAWAN which was distributed by CARE for safe keeping of their exercise books. By noon you are out of school, but back in home you throw your school back and start playing a BUGLEY in the hot air with a approximately 45 degrees Celsius. No one in this world will ever die for living in a hot environment, but as I have never been in snow raining places I guess they are millions who die for it. Life is healthier in this environment. At the end of school term, we will be so excited because there were distributions of books to those who score good marks. To gain that one is supposed to work hard, but some gain it through QISH or corruption. I once did it. But it was in a different form. There was a friend of mine who directed me to my headmistress home (Mrs. fowsiya) and all I could do is to change the whole marks. Since It was my first time to do it, then I did it wrong. It was supposed to be 500/500, but I made it 600 and above, and that led me earn some strokes the following day. That was some years back, exactly 1996. Brothers and sisters, this is to remember the past. Let us stand together as one nation and one people.
