Seven Times. Saw the documentary Fed Up, which pins the US - TopicsExpress

Seven Times. Saw the documentary Fed Up, which pins the US obesity epidemic not solely upon overeating and lack of exercise, but primarily upon consumption of the immense amounts of sugar found in nearly every commercial food product. The other night I showed it to my dad who has weight issues, pre-diabetic, buys lots of junk food, and relies on consumer newsletters of spurious origin for health and diet information. He nodded off a few times (he worked a six-hour shift beforehand, so no big deal), but was awake for the key point of the movie. As he got up to go to bed: Me: So, did you get the main point? Dad: Yeah. Calories in, calories out. Me: Wait, what? Dad: Calories in, calories out. I got it. Me: No, thats the OPPOSITE of what they were saying. (rewinding to the clip) Here, watch it again. Me (after we rewatched the 40-sec. segment): So did you get it? Dad: Yeah. Im going to bed. Me: Stop buying junk food, Dad. Dad: Good night. They say a person needs to hear a fact seven times before theyll start to consider its veracity. Thats #3 in the past two weeks -- four to go.
