HARI OM 160 Club: Will it puncture nations dream? Nations dream is to see Narendra Modi as the next Prime minister. By Vivekanand Jha, Author of Delhi Beckons: RaGa for NaMo The recent claim of Madhu Kishwar that a dominant section of BJP wants it to emerge as the single largest party at the hustings but still falling conveniently short of two hundred sets, is a vindication of the fact that there are too many slips between the cup and the lip till the election results are out. Recent controversial remark of Madhu Kishwar, a veteran writer and a powerful speaker, that a vested interests in the BJP camp which resent Narendra Modis rise, are on its way to sabotage the results of this general election to ensure that despite there being a mad wave in favour of Modi, Modi is still kept away from the power while someone else, hopefully from BJP or someone from its allies, is finally promoted for the top job, is really shocking and even depressing to the hilt. While Madhu Kishwar has said nothing prophetic but nevertheless her statement at such a sensitive and crucial point when the entire nation seems to be dancing to the NaMo tune, comes as a big setback to all those right thinking citizens of this nation who are aspiring for a better India under Narendra Modis rule. Why is that minuscule proportion of BJP is desperate to see Narendra Modi being kept out of power while someone else, less powerful, replacing him? The situation in BJP today is much similar to the Presidential election in 1863, when the Republican party had overruled the candidacy of William Seward against less formidable Abraham Lincoln, as the Republicans thought that overwhelmingly dominating Seward, if elected to Presidency, would hardly covet U.S Congress or even care for his own party. In contrast, the topmost echelon of the BJP while bowing to the wishes of its rank and file, elevated Narendra Modi as its Prime ministerial candidate much against the wish of its patriarch Lal krishna Advani and other senior leaders, almost on the same ground--Modi being strong will never give them the importance that they deserve. Nonetheless, Modis elevation, not only enthused the rank and file of BJP, but it energised the nation which stood moribund in the wake of series of scams and massive corruption that India had never witnessed in the wake of its independence. Although the veteran group of BJP comprising of such leaders like L.K.Advani, M.M.Joshi, Sushma Swaraj etc. did not appreciate Modis elevation, but they had no say in stopping Modis bandwagon although they did everything possible in their hands to do so. Hence, having left with no option and fearing their own eclipse, they endorsed Modis candidature grudgingly. While Advani should not have begrudged Modis candidature, for Modi always belonged to Advanis camps till he himself became a serious contender for the top post. Moreover, Advani had already been designated as the BJPs Prime ministerail candidate in 2009 which he lost to Manmohan Singh and, therefore, morally he should himself have paved the way for a much younger candidate to lead the party in this impending election. But then, it is India where none calls it a day in politics unless the electorate shows them the door. And ironically, even the doors being shown, they always remain in serious quest for an entry into the Upper House( Rajya Sabha) As is the case of Advani, so with Joshi. The latter has started condemning his own decision to be in politics when it has become too obvious for him that, he perhaps may have to leave his constituency, Allahabad for Modi and may have to switch over to Kanpur. Joshi, unfortunately, considers it as a personal affront and hence has started making noises in the public, hoping to find some sympathy for his desperate appeal. Far from showing statesmanship of inviting Modi to contest from Benaras as a symbol of tokenism, Joshi has made a common cause with Advani and Sushma, who too, appears to be subdued by the rise of Modi---Sushma naturally was fancying her chance to don the prized Prime ministerial hat in this election as she was the natural choice for the party by convention. Regrettably, none of theses leaders who are proud of their own stature in the party, ever bother to think that, would either of them have remotely succeeded in galvanising the party rank and file to the extent of what Modi has done today. Does anyone of them ever introspect that, either of them, has the charisma that Modi has exhibited in the contemporary times by mobilising a huge support for himself and the party? And if they did it, they would have been left with no grouse against Modi for usurping the baton of leadership from their thumb. In the backdrop of the declaration of the election dates, this group of 160, is hoping against hope that the best option for BJP should be that the party must emerge as the single largest party, securing somewhere around 160-170 seats, falling far short of 200 seats so that Modis chance of assuming the nations leadership is best doomed for ever. And someone from them, can then step in to assume the parts leadership. They are prepared to go to any extent by influencing the selection of candidates to fielding independents to cut in the share of the vote for BJP. They may also try to fan the virulent anti- Modi propaganda and do all such tricks to demoralise Modi . Even these groups might be silently welcoming Kejriwals daily theatrics to derail NaMo from his destination. This particular group will be putting all hurdles on the path of Modi till the election and even after he comes successful in the wake of it. Hence, Modi needs to be wary of such a design of this group who, despite being his team members, will leave no stone unturned in their efforts to scuttle BJPs main agenda to see Modi presiding over the nations destiny in the post election phase of 2014.
