HARL PEASE, JR. BELIEVED TO BE ALIVE. For seven months no clue has been received of the fate of Capt. Harl Pease Jr. The Citation from the War Department stated that in the raid on Rabaul, New Britain Capt. Pease’s plane was on the wing which bore the brunt of the hostile action and the accurate shooting of his crew put down several Zero planes, dropped their bombs and it is believed the plane was shot down in flames as they did not return to their base.” The 19th group of which Capt. Pease was a member, returned to this country in December and two pilots flying beside Capt. Pease reported his plane was not on fire when last seen, but in a controlled glide going down over enemy territory. Time magazine stated in an account of the 19th Unit that two out of three of the original 19th group were killed, wounded or imprisoned. Mr. and Mrs. Pease never fully lost hope and the latter part of last week their joy knew no bounds when they learned their son was alive. They received the following message from the War Department, Washington, D.C. On February 9, 1943 a shortwave broadcast from Japan stated that Capt. Harl Pease, Jr. is a Prisoner of War in the hands of Japan. >The Plymouth Record, March 1943.
